capriamovies:

Etta James’ “At Last” used wonderfully in Pleasantville (1998)

Legendary soul singer Etta James has passed away. I wanted to post this video as a little tribute to her. “At Last” is undoubtedly her most popular contribution to music, and it’s always been one of my favorite songs. Pleasantville is a favorite film of mine, I consider it to be absolutely magical for many reasons, but mostly the use of color and music to illustrate meaningful moments in life. The symbolism is just divine, and the use of this song as Bud/David and Margaret drive to Lover’s Lane tops it off as one of the best scenes in the film. Sadly, the youtube quality doesn’t even begin to capture the beauty of this scene, so hopefully you will watch the DVD to get the full effect. Rest in Peace Etta James, there will never be another like you.

Long live Etta.
